Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
