۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
