When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
