The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
