The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 “Does he promise you that when you die and turn into dust and bones, you will be raised again?” 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 After them We produced other generations 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
