By the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 about the guilty ones: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 running away from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
