And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
