The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
