Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
