a good many of olden times, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
