A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
