He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
