The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
