Nay! By the moon 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning for people -- 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 who will be in Paradise 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
