He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
