The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 when the stars shall be thrown down, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was killed 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 When the world on High is unveiled; 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 For the one among you who wishes to become upright. 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
