And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and to whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink. 33 If you follow a mortal like yourselves you will certainly be lost. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, utterly far-fetched is what you are being promised. 36 There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again). 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting. 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it). 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
