The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 when earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he shall call for destruction 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
