۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 Then, are we not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 See how those who were warned met their end! 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
