The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
