Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By those that winnow with a winnowing 1 and those that carry the burden [of heavy clouds,] 2 and the smooth runners 3 and execute the great task of apportioning (rainfall): 4 surely that you are promised is true, 5 And indeed, the recompense is to occur. 6 By the heaven full of paths, 7 Indeed, you are in differing speech. 8 though only those who are averse to the Truth will turn away from (believing in it). 9 They but destroy themselves, they who are given to guessing at what they cannot ascertain 10 Who are careless in an abyss! 11 they who [mockingly] ask, "When is that Day of Judgment to be?" 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (i.e. burnt) over the Fire! 13 'Taste your trial! This is that you were seeking to hasten.' 14 [But,] behold, the God-conscious will find themselves amid gardens and springs, 15 enjoying all that their Sustainer will have granted them [because,] verily, they were doers of good in the past: 16 They used to sleep but little by night [invoking their Lord (Allah) and praying, with fear and hope]. 17 And in the dawns they prayed for forgiveness. 18 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share. 19 And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith] 20 just as [there are signs thereof] within your own selves: can you not, then, see? 21 And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised. 22 By the Lord of the heavens and the earth, this is certainly true even as you speak. 23
