The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
