The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And spreading shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
