And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 “Has he chosen daughters instead of sons?” 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 You and whatever you worship 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 [The angels say], "Every single one of us has his place assigned: 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 will certainly be victorious 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
