AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 but be conscious of God and disgrace me not!" 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 "Here are my daughters," said Lot, "if you are so active." 71 Verily, by your life (O Muhammad SAW), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 There are great Signs in this for those endowed with intelligence. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
