And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world's life, said: This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat from and drinking of what you drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is nothing but a man who has forged against Allah a lie, we will never believe him' 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 Said Allah, “They will soon wake up at morn, regretting.” 40 So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 So they rejected them, calling them liars, and they too eventually became of those that were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs. 50
