The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Greeks have been vanquished 2 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
