Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
