The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost. 34 “Does he promise you that when you die and turn into dust and bones, you will be raised again?” 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 He is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him. 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear authority 45 To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people. 46 They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?" 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a miracle and settled them on a high land, quite secure and watered by a spring. 50
