The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
