And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allah took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allah] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses." 81 Wherefore whosoever shall turn away thereafter - those then! they are the transgressors. 82 So do they desire a religion other than the religion of Allah, whereas to Him has submitted whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or grudgingly, and it is to Him they will return? 83 Say: 'We believe in Allah and what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and to Issac and Jacob and his descendents, and the teachings which Allah gave to Moses and Jesus and to other Prophets. We make no distinction between any of them and to Him do we submit. 84 And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. 85 How would God bestow His guidance upon people who have opted for unbelief after having embraced the faith and having borne witness that this Messenger is true and [after] all evidence of the truth has come to them? For, God does not guide such wrongdoers: 86 These! their meed is that on them shall be the curse of Allah and of angles and of mankind, all; 87 In this state they shall abide forever; their punishment shall not be lightened nor shall they be granted respite. 88 Except those who repented thereafter and reformed themselves; then indeed Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful. 89 Verily those who disbelieve after they have believed and thereafter wax in infidelity, their repentance shall by no means be accepted. These! they are the straying ones. 90 From those who deny and die disbelieving will never be accepted an earthful of gold if proferred by them as ransom. For them is grievous punishment, and none will help them. 91
