99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
