The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 What is your opinion if he were upon guidance, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
