The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to the stinters who, 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 Indeed! On that Day a barrier will be set between them and their Lord, 15 Then verily they will be roasted into the Scorch. 16 Then it will be said: 'this is that which ye were wont to belie.' 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? 19 a written record, 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given to drink of pure wine, sealed. 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers. 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers: 34 On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things). 35 Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds? 36
