The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
