He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
