The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty. 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
