The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
