Aaron had indeed told them earlier: "O my people, you are being only misled with this. Surely your Lord is Ar-Rahman. So follow me and obey my command." 90 They replied, "We shall not cease to worship it until Moses returns to us." 91 Said Moosa, “O Haroon – what prevented you when you saw them going astray?” 92 “That you did not come after me? So did you disobey my order?” 93 Answered [Aaron]: "O my mother's son! Seize me not by my beard, nor by my head! Behold, I was afraid lest [on thy return] thou say, 'Thou hast caused a split among the children of Israel, and hast paid no heed to my bidding!" 94 Said Moosa, “And what is your explanation, O Samri?” 95 He replied: 'I saw what they did not see and seized a handful of dust from the foot print of the messenger and so I cast it; this my soul prompted me to do' 96 Moses said, "Begone! It shall be your lot to say throughout your life, "Do not touch me," and you will be faced with a fate from which there will be no escape. Now look at your deity to which you have become so devoted: we shall burn it up, and then scatter it into the sea. 97 Your Lord is the One who is the only God and He has the knowledge of all things. 98 Thus do We relate to you (some) of the news of what has gone before; and indeed We have given to you a Reminder from Ourselves. 99 He who turns away from it will surely bear a heavy burden on the Day of Resurrection, 100 which they shall bear forever. It will be a grievous burden for them on the Day of Judgement, 101 the Day when the trumpet shall be blown: We shall gather all the sinners on that Day. Their eyes will turn blue with terror 102 They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]." 103 We know well what they will say. The most just among them in the matter will declare: 'You have stayed away but one day' 104
