The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
