The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its brightness 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
