The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember? 22
