He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
