The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for those on the Right, 38
