These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
