Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
