Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ OH, THE LAYING-BARE of the truth! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality? 3 Thamood and Ad cried lies to the Clatterer. 4 But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning! 5 and the Ad were destroyed by a furiously raging wind-storm 6 which continued to strike them for seven nights and eight days so that eventually you could see the people lying dead like the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 7 Do you see any trace of them? 8 And Firon and those before him and the overthrown cities continuously committed sins. 9 When they disobeyed the apostle of their Lord He seized them with an overwhelming punishment. 10 Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship 11 That We might make it unto you an admonition, and that it might be retained by the retaining ears. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow - 14 on that Day, the Event occurs. 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 and will turn frail, losing all force. The angels will be around the heavens and on that day eight of them will carry the Throne of your Lord above all the creatures. 17 On that Day you will be brought to judgement and none of your secrets will remain hidden. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." 20 so he will live in a state of Bliss 21 In a Garden lofty. 22 The fruit clusters of which are hanging down. 23 [And all who are thus blest will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer in return for all [the good deeds] that you have sent ahead in days gone by!" 24 Then as to him who shall be vouchsafed his book in his left hand, he shall say: Oh! would that I had not been vouchsafed my book. 25 and had not known my account. 26 Oh, would that it had been death! 27 My wealth has been of no use to me. 28 There hath perished from me my authority. 29 Lay hold of him and chain him; 30 Then cast him into the burning fire, 31 Fasten a chain to them - seventy cubits long - 32 they did not believe in the great God, 33 nor did he feel any urge to feed the needy, 34 so today he has no friend here, 35 Nor food other than suppuration (filth) 36 None shall eat it but the sinners. 37
