a large group of the earlier people 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
