The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of delight; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
