The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
